Windows 10 Anniversary update - PC Upgrade

As is the default, after a year, Microsoft has decided to release supplemented version of the operating system (Anniversary update), so that for the English-speaking version is released files 'Win10_1607_English_x32.iso' and 'Win10_1607_English_x64.iso', one of which is made with regard to the installation DVD to upgrade the existing operating system or reinstallation of the 'clean' OS. Of course, the new version of OS has many new features and integrated previous upgrades.

At about that time, the author of these lines decided to upgrade their existing computer (Example I), nearly 10 years old, but did not respect the basic principle when installing new components - COMPUTER TOTTALY EXCLUDED from AC city power grid (110 / 220 V). After installing the used newer model of motherboard (PCE-e v2.0) the computer is off only at the electronic switch, which means that some parts remain under voltage. When inserting the newer (used) graphics card result was the current 'smell'; motherboard, graphics card and power supply 'canceled obedience' and the computer has turned into unusable 'trash'. Well, the monitor, the existing built-in PCI-e cards and peripherals are not canceled, considerable expense less. State; available is an upgraded OS but can not be installed on the computer.

Described was the reason for the decision to purchase new components. Anyway, it was time for it. In doing so, are carefully examined all the details regarding the set criteria of buying new components to upgrade the computer of user (me) who is not a 'player', but sometimes likes to play with an older games and watch movies. These newer games in my opinion have a lot of blood and various monsters. Only the female characters were brought to perfection and as a rule are almost no clothes (to the satisfaction of the male population).

According to my thinking, and the cash balances of the new computer components have to meet the following criteria:

Example II

The existing desktop chassis, is inserted a new motherboard, processor, memory, graphics card and power supply, resulting in the configuration of computer and SOHO network as follows:

By default, for all components must be updated drivers for the 'Windows 10' operating system. According to this in the 'new' computer incorporated the following main components:

The old heatsink for the processor, 'Zalman', was a minor problem. The spacing of holes for heatsink at LGA 775 socket is 72.15 mm, and in LGA 1151 is 75 mm. With the help of small drill and small drill bit, holes in the carrier of heatsink became elongated and heatsink further serves. Small dilemma was present in the election of disk system. Instead of the Solid State Drive (SSD) with a classic HDD was selected two recent products - two SSHD disk drives by 'Seagate' company. Hybrid discs with classical DRAM cache memory of 64 MB with 8 MB of MLC (Multi-Level Cell) NAND Flash memory. According to the specification have fairly large data throughput. When installing the OS used is already established organization of partitions under the previous Table for the 'Windows 7' operating system. Assuming better compatibility with older program support (software) is chosen version of the operating system 'Win10_1607_English_x32.iso'. The process of installing the operating system is virtually indistinguishable from the description of the version '1507'. It is only for this area localization of keyboard labeled differently.

Installing the virtual machine does not show any anomalies, but when installing on a physical computer appears the message shown in Figure 4.6.50b. 32 GB of free space for the the system partition? Does that mean that at the expense of the new features OS in size increases, and program code is accumulated in all the endless bunch of that is not optimized? When the disk space is larger, no problem, but message is associated me with a small lion who grew and limps on one leg. According to the inventory has mighty improvement, but all essentially comes down to the effort that the interface of the window which has a larger contact surface, to mobile devices, and on account of this 'growing' content of the group 'Windows Settings', and reduces the content of the group 'Control Panel'. So when is already available why his job is not done properly? It seems to me that he has not received sufficient attention, especially with regard to the installation of older programs and devices.

If it must be used 32-bit system, which will put such a small address space? Especially with a new generation of hardware? If the 4 GB address space of RAM subtracting 2 GB of the address space will occupy memory graphics cards regardless of addressing, for the needs of the operating system does not remain almost anything. What if the graphics card provides 4 GB of memory? Each 32-bit Windows server had a larger address space, because it is used to address with 36-bit. Why the same is not done with the core of this operating system? Company policies? Pathetic! Still, the problem can be solved as described here. Of course, it is the PAE (Physical Address Extension) mode. The result is as shown in the following Figure.

Below is a simplified account regarding the total physical memory of the computer looks something like this:

When the available address space is increased needs to determine how much of the first two items take up memory space. It is possible to make with the command shown below.

Programming Tool 'Microsoft System Configuration Utility', or shorter 'msconfig' is designed to address specific problems in the computer, and the software card 'BOOT' used to define the total address space of the operating system and graphics card (4096+2048=6144). It is useful to adjust the value to the operating system remains the use of slightly less than 4 GB, otherwise some program support (software) refuses to work. And what about the RAMDisk device? First, be careful that its size meet the above account. In it can be directed 'TEMP' facilities of the operating system and software support from user. It is particularly useful if large enough memory to handle video content. What options granted ramdisk device depends on the user. The author of these lines awarded him the option so that it acts as a physical disk, as shown in Figure 4.6.50b. Must not forget that used RAMDisk, and its software support, should have the option that allows saving its contents to a file on the HDD during computer shut down, to when re-power-up its content is automatically uploaded to RAMDisk.

RAMDisk read / write speeds blow away the speeds of even top-of-the-line SSD-s. That makes a RAMDisk a wonderful tool for hastening operations in which computer must read and write a lot of data, such as media encoding or editing large batches of photos. The biggest everyday performance gains occur when programs are fully install on a RAMDisk. For example, moving Word, Excel, Firefox, and Acrobat from hard drive onto a RAMDisk resulted in the applications loading nearly twice as quickly, rivaling the opening speeds on an SSD, especially when opening large files. Of course, it should be quite the available physical memory for the its efficient use. Not at all important whether you are on the 'x32' or 'x64' operating system.

A reason for the use of two physical disk and multiple partitions on them already has been written in previous chapters, so now there is no need to repeat yourself. In any case, performance of computers are better. On the Internet there are plenty of the online content that are able to measure the performance of computer are better. As expected test results suggest a better graphics card and processor, as in the previous figure was not shown because of its size. As already stated it will be someone else's care. I'm with the existing results fully satisfied. Even more so 'Gibson' (screen saver which also measures the FPS - Frames Per Second) gives a score of about 50 frames per second, which is better than the results in the 'Example I'. With a little adjustment and stopping of unnecessary services result would have been even better.

Of course, the 'Windows' would not be what they are if automatically does not affecting what the user needs. So without problems upgrade drivers whether you like to or not. That's not bad unless eg. a new graphics card driver after upgrading working worse than the previous. The above is 'normal' for newer hardware, but not for older computers typically to which there is no new drivers. The first thing to be done is shown in Figure 4.6.56a, choice of {System}-{Advanced system setings}.

The second thing to do is, as at Figure 4.6.52, enter the command 'gpedit.msc' in order to activate the software 'Local Group Policy Editor' with which to upgrade of the drivers are completely disabled as shown in the animation in Figure 4.6.56b. It may be noted that all of the settings are not configured. This is one of the differences between the OS of the user and OS the server. For the users operating system all are not configured, and for servers all are disabled until the permit.

But, there is always some 'but', if the update is already entered in the list of the history of updates, will be repeated request for the installation, so update should 'hide' what displays animated Figure 4.6.56c. This will be done with tool 'wushowhide.diagcab'; download and unzip the file and run the tool from anywhere with action ' L1 ' on the file. The procedure should be repeated until all unwanted records in history does not delete (hide).

Luckily there is the Internet (not the internet), where you can find how to resolve problem. Find the identification number (ID) of the driver of choice {WinX}-{Device Manager}-|Display Adapters|-|Device Description|. For some adapter action ' L2 ' and the choice {Poperties} and action ' L1 ' at ||Details||-|Hardware Ids| retrieve a list of parameters of the driver. In the following Figure at the form shown in the bottom right corner of the Figure  can be read in ID parameters that belonging to the graphics card, which must be entered in item 'Group Policy' as shown in Figure 4.6.57.

The parameters are copied to a temporary file using the 'Notepad' program support. Action ' L2 ' in the blue box shown in the figure above and selecting {Edit} opens the form shown in the following animated picture. Provide |Enabled| and then action ' L1 ' on |Show...| retrieve form for registration of ID records. Copy the records placed in a temporary file and save your changes.

When upgrading the operating system, system upgrade informs that upgrade the driver can not be performed (failed) and more are not paying for it. I wish to build drivers that really need to be upgraded. Gentlemen from Microsoft all of this works 'lousy'. What to do if more drivers comes to? What will you do?

Not only that problem. Upgrading driver may not pass if it is not written down and certified in Microsoft's database. Then, similar to the previous should be back to play with the system policy towards the Figure.

Described in these pages a little surprising to me considering that the operating system designed to be acceptable to the platform and approachable to users (user friendly). But if the user has to bother with nonsense as described then is not approachable. Even more because it all 'ailments' known from previous versions and it seems remained unresolved or incomplete. Sweetest situation is when you succeed to install an older piece of hardware using a compatible mode, the certification of the driver is not a problem.




SUMMARY:

Lovers of 'Windows' operating systems does not remain more options except the installation 'Windows 10' operating system, and therefore reasonably expected to be fast and stable, and not just cosmetic repairs, to enable complete customer satisfaction. The long period of time passed during the development of this operating system (from 'XP' system onwards). With 'Windows' systems network administrators were very satisfied because with system policies could do a lot with regard to monitoring the functioning of the internal network (Intranet). The new operating system supports a variety of platforms possibilities of various and effective use only grow.
